This was passed along to me from someone in the Haysi community.

QUESTIONS WE NEED TO ASK

  1. What specifically are the “BETTERMENTS” that the school board’s plan calls for and that the Government could not support (pg. 6 of the 6/28/2011 negotiations)?

  2. How much money specifically has our county spent on these “BETTERMENTS” which were not supported by the government?

  3. How much of the total relocation Grant Money (110,572.215.00, includes the Clinchco ringwall money) has been spent on the Project? We need to demand an accounting from the school board.

  4. How can schools not included in the school board’s alternate plan (pg. 6 of the 6/28/2011 negotiations), be unilaterally added as part of the contract without a revision or an amendment to the contract?

  5. How much taxpayer money has the county spent on the consolidated schools? We need to demand an accounting from the Board of Supervisors.

  6. We need a separate accounting of exactly how federal grand money has been spent and how county money has been spent. We need to make sure that federal money has NOT been spent on “BETTERMENTS” which the government informed the school board shall be their sole responsibility to pay the costs for such betterments.

  7. If the school board’s alternate plan, against the recommendations of the government plan, has resulted in not enough money to fulfill the purposes of the plan, the taxpayers need to take action.

I agree that these questions need to be ask but the investigating is not that difficult of a process. I would bet a good chunk of misappropriated money can be tracked down by looking into three areas, 1) the custom $75,000 mural at the entrance 2) the football field playing surface, and 3) the brick exterior of the field houses. I remember being told these were not in the original budget and they had to adjust for them.
