My Thoughts for the Day

I have a question for anyone reading this post. What makes a great school? A great education? Hold your breath and prepare to be amazed! It is the people that are involved in the process; you know the teachers, administrators, cafeteria workers, janitors, and nurses. The powers that be in this county need to understand it is not the building, even if it is the “greatest” achievement in the history of this county. I keep hearing that we can’t build a school in Haysi because it would be unfair to the poor little children in Clintwood and Ervinton. They deserve to be in a new school just as much as any other child in the county. This is possibly the stupidest statement I have heard. What would have happened if the federal government did not open up their purse strings and give the county a large sack of money? Would we currently be raising taxes so we could replace all three schools? No we would be going along with our business the same as usual, happy to have safe and secure buildings for our students. This is an excuse to build one school with one purpose, which is to fill the wants of the school board and more importantly the superintendent. Since our leadership seems to be shortsighted I will look into my crystal ball and tell them two large problems are going to need to be addressed. What contingency plan do they have in place if we lose 100 students because of this move? What about 200 students? Also what are the transportation plans for having 5 year olds on a bus for over an hour? What if they need to pee? Do they just stop and knock on a door?
