Let us start out with a couple of quick facts about the county we call home.
* As of the last census the average home value in Dickenson County was around $70,000
* As of the last census the average household income in Dickenson County was around $34,000
So why is this information important at this time? It shows that this county is not made up of wealthy individuals, but instead working class families who value a dollar. ALL of these families should be upset at the current proposal that is being viewed to build an elementary school at Ridgeview. For those of you out of the loop the plan is to build the school in the front parking lot of the existing school. Why is this important? Because they are looking at demolishing a parking lot that cost at least a quarter of a million dollars to build less than 5 years after it was built. Think about that for a minute, a quarter million dollars is equal to the average value of around 4 houses or the average income of 7 of our families. How can we sit back and allow this kind of money to be wasted without consequences? Did they not know this was an option? As an individual I am responsible for my own budget, I have to make wise choices. Why does no one at the top understand this cannot be tolerated?
I would estimate that our superintendents disapproval rating is somewhere north of 90%, so why does the board not restrict her? Why do they always go along with her?
