Interesting thought on the subject

From a concerned bus driver

Seeing the news footage of the tragedy in Chattanooga brings to the forefront the idea that this could really happen here. Most of the public do not realize that the school system is desperate for bus drivers. DESPERATE may seem like a stretch but it is true. At around the same time the superintendent was getting a raise and increased benefits, insurance and retirement were taken away from new hire bus drivers. Take a minute to grasp what I just wrote- the superintendent got a raise and increase in benefits and new bus driver's were cut. The people responsible for transporting our kids to the middle of nowhere from the far ends of the county are not as valued as the people in the central office. The average new bus driver makes around $16,000 with no benefits while the superintendent makes around 100k and the director of transportation makes over 80k plus all benefits. We are currently using drivers because they are certified, not based on experience or temperament.
