Superintendent of the Dickenson County School System has Some Explaining to do

Haydee Robinson has been leading our school system for a while now. With the recent release of her contract the question has to be ask, Is she in this for the students, teachers or herself? On March 14, 2016 Mrs. Robinson sent out a budget presentation that included this slide, which details what has happened to Dickenson County teachers the last 5 years.

So she knew that the teachers salaries were dropping each year, aided by another drop this year, which happened by raising the premiums on insurance polices. It is understandable because over the same period of time the state has been lowering the amount of money that the school system receives. By deductive reasoning one would assume that Mrs. Robinson, being a decent human being, understanding what her employees are going through would also be going backwards on her salary too, right? Wrong, Mrs. Robinson took over at the same rate of pay that Judy Compton was making $82,000 per year. In her next contract that was signed in 2011, her salary was raised up to $90,000, an increase of $8,000. In her next contract in 2014 her salary was again raised, this time to $97,145, followed by another $1,200 raise (all county employees did get this one as well), bringing her current salary up to $98,345. While her employees are taking a cut in take home pay, Mrs. Robinson is climbing the salary ladder. To round out the injustices that her employees are experiencing, her most recent two contracts also increase the number of annual (vacation days) she receives to a level that is higher than anyone else in the school system. She also has a provision that rolls unused vacation days into sick days that the county pays for when she leaves the system. As one final kicker in the contract she is guaranteed 7 years of health insurance coverage for her and her husband, no other employee has this.
